I have spent three years building BrentoBox. I still believe in what I am building. What I am beginning to learn is that believing in it does not mean I have to carry every part of it myself.
That lesson has appeared in my work before. At CommBank, I learned to develop team capability rather than personally doing everything. At Queensland Health, I developed and executed campaigns from concept through production. Those experiences are part of what I bring to BrentoBox, and part of what I am learning to apply to my own way of building.
Making room while the work continues
Recently, I have begun spending more time with my family while BrentoBox’s Work and Builder environments carry out bounded work. I still hold the direction and the decisions that belong to me. The work is not finished, and these environments do not remove my responsibility. But I am beginning to experience a little more space to be present in my own life while continuing to build.
I'm still building what I believe in. I'm just learning that I don't have to carry every part of it myself.
For me, that is a small and personal beginning of Better Business. Better Life. It is not a claim that BrentoBox is complete or that someone else will have the same experience. It is something I am starting to recognise in my own life.
A purpose I am still learning to live
I want to keep building something I believe in and be there for the people who matter to me. Those things belong together. Learning how to make room for both is part of the work.
BrentoBox aims to help people build businesses that do not depend entirely on them. My own experience is still unfolding. This is where I am today: continuing to build, and beginning to learn that living does not have to wait until everything is finished.
